Overview
What Ara is and how it works at a high level.
Ara is a proactive software engineer that continuously improves your product. Instead of waiting for prompts, Ara identifies valuable work on its own, implements the change, and learns from the result.
Ara operates in a repeating loop:
- It finds the next improvement worth building
- It ships the change end‑to‑end
- It learns from the result and prepares the next step
Each run produces a real change and helps Ara improve how it works over time.
Builders use Ara to keep progress moving even when they are not actively directing every step. Ara reads your product and codebase, identifies opportunities for improvement, and schedules work so the loop keeps running.
Ara is trusted daily by builders across leading teams and institutions including Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, Harvard, Airbnb, and Meta.
If you’re new to Ara, start with:
- Understanding the improvement loop
- Setting up Ara with your codebase
- Watching runs in Mission Control
These three concepts form the core of how Ara operates.
